Rembrandt Harmensz van Rijn

(Leiden 1606 - 1669 Amsterdam)

A painter in his studio (Anonymous pupil of Rembrandt)

Panel, 53 x 64.5 cm

This painting most likely has been inspired by Rembrandt´s famous painting The painter in his studio now in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. For many years our painting was attributed to Gerrit Dou in the art-historical literature. Over the last years some doubts have been expressed by experts and Van de Wetering has recently attributed the painting to an unnamed Rembrandt pupil.
